YAYOI Japanese Restaurant Review: Authentic Teishoku Sets in San Mateo

Ate here for the first time. Wasn't that busy so we were seated right away. Ordered the pork katsu curry and sushi bites. Food arrived by robot which was cool. Both dishes were really good. Manager and wait staff were really nice and helpful.Highly recommended.

Very reminiscent of when I went to Tokyo. Prices are higher of course and you don’t get the benefit of the currency exchange rate, but at least the high quality of the food is Japan level. You order on an iPad with pictures, which is easy to navigate and to request service or refills. I like the tonkatsu, sukiyaki, and sushi bites. Everything is good here. You really can’t go wrong.

I passed by this place many times, and today, I decided to order takeout. The restaurant was very nice and not too busy. The server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Chicken Katsu, which didn't take very long to cook. The food was very good!! The portion was a nice size for the price paid, and they only accept credit cards. I would definitely come back again.

Very authentic Japanese home-style restaurant I was surprised by the variety of the menu. Besides the outside menu, you can find more things to pick from! They also have a lot of Don, Ramen, and even a handroll sushi! I ordered Mixed Fries with egg-covered, which were good. They came with katsu, wagyu beef, and shrimp fries . The katsu was not soft enough to chew, but the taste was good. I could also customize my order by adding Gyoza, chawan mushi (steamed egg custard), and Eel Don. Then, I ordered some sweets after had proper lunch, Warabimochi and An Mitsu were also so yummy. I especially liked the mochi ice-topped on the An Mitsu. So happy to have casual home-stye Japanese here!

It's a little pricey for what you get, but we come here again and again because dinner here is so easy with the kids! It's one of the only places with a healthy kids meal with carb, meat, veggie, beverage, and dessert that the kids are super excited to devour. The robot delivering food is the entertainment for the evening too. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and ordering is a breeze with the tablet. Staff has always been really polite and helpful.

We wanted to come here since for awhile and finally got a chance this past Sunday right after they opened at 1130. The ordering was easy with the tablet. Our drinks came out promptly. I got the Yo Yoi Gozen set meal and my partner got the Saba Shio salt grilled mackerel set meal. My meal was great and delicious. The mackerel for my partner came out 5 minutes later. They had to add some soy sauce as it was not that seasoned as we thought. Service was great throughout our meal. Soon the place started filling up after we arrived. I was satisfied and stuffed after our meal. I'll go back when I get the chamce and try a different set meal.

My kids and I stopped by for lunch and we loved loved it ! We ordered eel sushi, spicy tuna sushi, spicy salmon sushi, ikura sushi, salmon don and a kids meal and everything was delicious. In the end we ordered mochi ice cream and matcha tiramisu both of which were also yummy. The place is so clean, with a contemporary look and very fast service. My children were most excited about the robots that were rolling around waiting tables and serving meals …. looked like straight out of a sci-fi movie !

Ordered on the tablet, picked up my food from the robot — absolutely perfect for introverts.
